Bună Glenn, felicitări pentru LP-ul Long Road!

Apropo, cum a început totul?

ENGLISH VERSION:

Hi Glenn, congrats for the Long Road LP! How long did it take you to complete it? Also, please share with us the biggest challenges you had to face while working on it.

It was a long working process. It is always hard work to write an album that works and I had decided I was ready to do a new LP already in 2013 but started to work on it early 2014. I had just begun the work and finished a few tracks when i was diagnosed with Lymphoma Cancer that slowed down the work, but i continued to work on the album determined to finish it despite the cancer treatments. I think it was something that helped me through the illness, to be able to focus on something i love, music. I am now in remission.

How would you say your sound progressed since you began making music? Btw, how did it all start?

I got into music back in the mid-late 90s, starting off as a hip hop dj, and got into drum&bass quite quick. I got into writing music around 2000, using tracker programs like Impulse Tracker. I hooked up with fellow producer Kaleb and we released our first official vinyl 12″ in 2003 on US label Phuturistic Bluez. I think my sound has progressed a lot, as tech stuff has gotten more advanced and you keep on learning new stuff. But I think i have kept a certain feel of soul & funk in my music thru the years.

I know that you draw influence from many artists, such as Bob Marley, Miles Davis and even Wu Tang Clan. However, who were the main influencers of Long Road?

There are many people who inspire me and influence me music wise. Singer Dave Ashton came up with the lyrics for the track “Long Road” which ended up as the title track so he’s been a big inspiration for it. Of course a lot of the great music makers out there as you already mentioned. I think i always try to look for inspiration in different music when i hear it. Always try to search for new things. And it’s no big secret i am a big fan of old Nirvana ;)

What’s your favourite track on the LP? Why?

It’s really hard to pick one. Maybe “Long Road” as we had a lot of fun working on it with Dave and i think it came out really nice !

How is the dnb scene in Finland? Would you consider moving to the UK, the Mecca of drum and bass, in order to further develop your career?

We have a great little music scene here in Finland, Helsinki where I live. We do regular nights with our club branch Helsinki Jungle Mafia and there is other organizers too such as ORC, Drop Zone, Clublife and many more, so there is a drum&bass party almost every weekend. I never felt the urge to move to the UK. I love to visit now and then and meet up with friends and people involved in the music who live over there, but even if it is the home of Drum&Bass I’m pretty comfortable over here. I enjoy my life, there is plenty of space and clean air and i got all my friends over here too so I don’t think i will be moving to the UK but never say never ;)

Any final words?
