“With over 20 years of experience as a DJ and producer, Serum’s understanding of the history of D&B shines through in everything he does. It’s no surprise he’s the artist of choice when it comes to bringing a classic up to date, having worked his remix magic for legends like Roni Size, Dillinja, Mampi Swift and Ray Keith.
Serum’s the man when I’m in jungle mode. His tracks have that real jungle vibe but with a fresh updated feel. They’ve formed a massive part of my sets over the years and smashed up dance floors all over the world – Bryan Gee, V Recordings.
A string of bona-fide anthems like “Up In Smoke”, “Snake Fist”, “Rat Trap” and “Fly Paper” have seen Serum’s music grace labels as diverse as V Recordings, Low Down Deep, Shogun, Dread, Playaz, Critical, 31, Philly Blunt and Creative Source.
Serum’s productions are consistently at the highest quality of Drum & Bass and have definitely broadened the appeal of my label – Logan D, Low Down Deep Recordings.
As a DJ, Serum’s rapid fire blend of brand new dubplates, classics and remixes has seen him tear it up at events all over the globe such as Fabric Live, Outlook, Jungle Mania, City Flow, Rampage, Boomtown, Breakin’ Science, Ram, AWOL and Random Concept.”
“Commix is the 170bpm creative home for George Levings and formerly Guy Brewer.
Call To Mind holds the title of being the first artist album for historic label Metalheadz. The long player was incredibly well received across the electronic music spectrum. The ambitious remix project titled Re:Call To Mind followed where a range of innovators were asked to reinterpret the tracks, remixers on the project included Marcell Dettman, Burial and Underground Resistance.
In 2016 George Levings returns as Commix, with a renewed sense of purpose. There is a new backbone regarding the way the music is made; less samples and more hardware based creation with a focus on sound design. This year is going to be a rousing year for Commix, new music has been scheduled for Metalheadz with the sophomore album already in the works. Exciting times for all concerned.”
“Suburban North London, the location of Mark System’s family home in which he spent his formative years, is symbolic. Exposed to dance music by the city’s local pirate radio stations, the inspired young composer, performer and musician, experimented with keyboards, microphones and tape.
Exit Records and dBridge, also firm allies of Mark and his artistry, made an ultimate statement of belief, by releasing his debut album ‘Final Approach’ in Spring 2015.
Currently, in both DJing and producing, Mark has distilled his knowledge into the essential elements in order to make a statement. His music is mature and confident yet far from tamed and the intensity of his DJ sets evokes strong emotion. They are attractive, edgy and yet accessible.
Speak with the man himself and you’ll find him modest and reserved, choosing to discuss his passion rather than achievements, stating that anything he’s achieved thus far is purely a solid foundation for the beginning of a fruitful career.
Examples of his widely appealing and defining work are Optix, Near Miss and Love Dub.”
