Given that Akov is coming in Timisoara on Saturday for the MIB launch party in Romania, I managed to talk to him and gladly, he was very excited to answer a few of my questions.

  1. How did you get into mixing and producing drum and bass?

I’m actually extremely new  drum and bass, the first record that I heard was in 2012 and it was the  “Method in the madness LP” by Octane and DLR. It blew my mind so much that I had to start making dnb and the mixing came soon after I went to my first dnb gigs.

  1. What collaborations would you enjoy doing in the future?

I have collabs with Coppa, Kryptomedic and Anatomix forthcoming, but my dream collabs would be with Koan Sound, Emperor, Mefjus and Hybris I would say.

  1. How would you describe your style?

I’d say I fit into the neurofunk niche quite comfortably. I pride myself on the intros though, which feature heavy elements of world music and cinematic themes which I feel is quite original to my personal sound and something I will continue to explore, It’s heavy but melodic.

  1. What is your impression on the current drum and bass community? Do you think it is going in the right direction?

As a community, I think there is a huge sense of solidarity and it’s healthier than ever, but in terms of the music people are producing, we seem to be entering a noise and loudness war as bad as the one that killed dubstep, so let’s wait and see what happens.

  1. If you had one chance to change something in the drum and bass scene, what would it be?

Drum and bass has some of the most and technical producers in the world and it attracts and inspires  more and more every day. I guess it would be nice if people used that technical ability to explore sounds that aren’t already being used left ,right and center. This is something I want to be conscious of in my own production too.

  1. What are your future plans and releases?

I have lots planned with Mayan audio, and I’m always searching for new labels to work with. I’ve recently finished a lot of material that I’m sending out to labels currently, so fingers crossed there will be a couple of EPs in early 2017. As for long term, my live show will incorporate a bear mask with laser eyes soon, and I’ve started to develop the first ideas for my debut LP.

  1. What sound or events inspire you?

Anything that has a sense of epic scales to it. Huge open spaces, often mechanical sounds. I love the sounds of large underwater animals and trying to recreate that within my music.

  1. What are your favourite artists at the moment?

Hybris, Current Value, Kaya Project and Phaeleh.

  1. Do you have a message that you want to share with your Romanian fans?

Yeah, you better be ready, cause things are going to get evil in Timisoara!

Thank you Akov  for your time and I wish you the best of luck in the future! I can’t wait for your smashing set this weekend!
